The Press

About Sky Scrawl

An independent press for fiction with lasting weight — books built to be reread, and carried past launch week for as long as they earn readers.

Why we exist

Story as architecture

Sky Scrawl was founded on a simple principle: publish voices that challenge conventions and outlast trends. In a market that rewards the disposable, we look for narratives that ask to be reread — books that make their readers participants rather than audiences.

We think of story as architecture. A novel is built — foundation, structure, atmosphere, sightlines — and the reader walks through it. The authors we publish plan tension the way architects plan load and they trust their readers with ambiguity.

The catalog stays small on purpose. Every title gets the same attention in its third year as in its first week; we support the backlist as fiercely as the new release.

Our process

How a book happens here

  1. Discovery

We read widely and acquire narrowly — open submissions, competitions and writing communities, weighed against one question: will this still matter in ten years?

  2. Development

Editors work with authors across drafts on structure, character and line — the slow part and the part we refuse to rush.

  3. Publication

Design, production and distribution handled end to end, so the book that reaches readers is the book the author meant.

  4. Promotion

Campaigns built around each book rather than a template — and carried past launch week, for as long as the book earns readers.

Our principles

What we hold to

Quality first

Every manuscript earns its place. Rigour in editing is the respect we owe both author and reader.

Author partnership

We publish writers, not just books — the relationship runs from first draft through backlist.

Reader connection

Books are chosen for the readers who will keep them, argue with them and pass them on.

Work with us

If you write the kind of fiction that refuses to let go, we read every submission that reaches us. Readers can find the people behind the books on our author pages.
