Sky Scrawl Signs Debut Novelist Ishan Sharma: "We Are Building a Universe, Not Just a Book."
Sky Scrawl Publishing is proud to announce the signing of Ishan Sharma as our lead author for the 2024-2025 slate.
In an industry chasing the next viral trend, Ishan brings a distinct, architectural approach to storytelling. With a background in tech and a deep interest in the intersection of ancient philosophy and futurism, his work promises to bridge the gap between "Hard" Science Fiction and literary metaphysics.
We sat down with Ishan to discuss his signing, his philosophy on fiction, and the manuscript that will launch the Sky Scrawl era.
The Interview: "The First Glitch"
Sky Scrawl: Welcome to the team. Most debut authors start with something small—a short story collection or a contemporary drama. You’re starting with a universe. What is the first project you are bringing to Sky Scrawl?
Ishan Sharma: I’m starting with Ecliptus.
SS: That’s the hard sci-fi project. Why that one? Why not some other genre?
IS: Because Ecliptus asks the question that underpins everything else I want to write: What happens when the system works too well? The genesis of this book wasn't a flash of inspiration. It was a slow convergence of unsettling questions. I kept thinking about the "Singularity"—not as an apocalypse, but as a quiet transition. What becomes of a mind when its anchor to the physical world is severed?
SS: The "Stellar Lattice" concept?
IS: Exactly. We talk about uploading consciousness like it’s just copying a file. But Ecliptus argues that a copy is just a "sophisticated ghost." I wanted to write a story about a man (Ethan) trying to build a stable temporal matrix to save someone he lost, only to realize that the "echo" he saved isn't the person he loved. It’s a tragedy wrapped in quantum mechanics.
SS: So, no laser battles?
IS: (Laughs) No. The physics in Ecliptus is the antagonist. The math is the monster. I want to write sci-fi where the science is the problem.
SS: You’re launching this in October. What can readers expect?
IS: They can expect to feel small. I want them to finish the book, look at their phone, look at the stars, and wonder which one is actually the simulation.
What’s Next?
